Better Youth UK Modern Slavery Statement
1. Our Commitment
Better Youth UK is steadfastly committed to ensuring that modern slavery and
human trafficking have no place in our organisation or in the operations of any
of our partners. We understand that modern slavery is a serious crime and a
violation of fundamental human rights. As an organisation dedicated to
empowering young people, we have a particular responsibility to be vigilant and
proactive in preventing any form of exploitation.
This statement is made pursuant to the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and outlines
the steps we are taking to combat slavery and human trafficking.
2. Our Organisational Structure
Better Youth UK operates as a grassroots youth development organisation in the
UK. Our core activity is providing young people with opportunities for personal
and professional growth through our youth agent program, which involves the
sales of a quarterly produced magazine.
3. Our Policies
Better Youth UK has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery. Our policies,
including our Safeguarding Policy and our Youth Agent Terms of Engagement,
are designed to reflect this commitment. Specifically, our policies ensure:
• Fair Compensation: All youth agents, whether they are paid through
allowances or commission, are guaranteed a rate of pay that meets or
exceeds the UK's National Minimum Wage.
• Voluntary Participation: All young people participating in our program do
so on a voluntary basis. We have strict recruitment and onboarding
procedures to ensure that no one is coerced or forced into participating
against their will.
• Safe Working Environment: We provide a safe, respectful, and supportive
working environment for all our youth agents, with clear channels for
reporting any concerns.
4. Risk Assessment and Due Diligence
While we believe the risk of modern slavery within our own operations is very low
due to the nature of our work, we are committed to being vigilant. Our due
diligence processes include:
• Recruitment Checks: As outlined in our Safeguarding Policy, we conduct
appropriate background checks where necessary.
• Transparency: Our youth agent onboarding process is fully transparent,
with all terms of engagement, commission structures, and expectations
clearly communicated in writing.
• Supplier Relationships: While our supply chain is currently small, we will
ensure that any future suppliers and partners are also committed to
combating modern slavery.
5. Training
We provide training to our staff and volunteers on the signs of modern slavery
and how to report any concerns. This training is part of our broader
safeguarding training program.
6. Reporting a Concern
If any staff member, volunteer, or youth agent has a concern related to modern
slavery or human trafficking, they are required to report it immediately to the

Better Youth UK (BYUK) Prevent Policy
1. Introduction
Better Youth UK is committed to safeguarding all young people from harm, and
this includes protecting them from the risks of radicalisation and extremism.
This policy outlines our commitment to the UK Government's Prevent Strategy,
which is a key part of the national counter-terrorism strategy, and is designed to
stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.
Our approach to Prevent is a natural extension of our existing safeguarding
duties. It is not about spying or targeting specific groups, but rather about
creating a safe environment and building the resilience of our youth agents to
resist extremist ideologies.
2. What is Radicalisation and Extremism?
• Radicalisation: This is the process by which a person comes to support
terrorism and forms of extremism that lead to violence.
• Extremism: This is the vocal or active opposition to fundamental British
values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual
respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
We believe that providing a safe space for young people to discuss sensitive
topics is the best way to build their resilience and critical thinking skills.
3. Our Role and Responsibilities
Better Youth UK has a duty to have "due regard to the need to prevent people
from being drawn into terrorism." Our approach is to:
• Promote British Values: We will embed fundamental British values into
our work, encouraging open discussion, respect for others, and individual
liberty.
• Provide Training: All staff and key volunteers will receive training to help
them understand the risks of radicalisation and the signs to look out for.
• Create a Safe Environment: We will ensure that our spaces, both physical
and online, are safe for young people to express themselves and discuss
ideas without fear of judgment.
• Protect from Exploitation: We recognise that young people who are
vulnerable are at a higher risk of being groomed by extremist groups,
similar to how they can be exploited by gangs or for sexual exploitation.
We will treat concerns about radicalisation in the same way we would any
other safeguarding concern.
4. Reporting a Concern
If any staff member, volunteer, or youth agent has a concern that a young
person may be at risk of radicalisation, they must:
1. Report to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): The concern should
be reported immediately and confidentially to the DSL, [ Doburn junior Mudziviri ],
at [betteryouthukltd@gmail.com] or [+44 7307178659 ]. The DSL will
then follow a structured process to assess the risk.
2. Referral to Channel: If the DSL determines that there is a genuine risk, they
will make a referral to Channel. Channel is a multi-agency program that
provides confidential, voluntary support to people who are vulnerable to
being drawn into terrorism.
In an immediate emergency, if you believe a young person is in danger, you
must call the police on 999.
5. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains current and effective,
and to reflect any updates in government guidance.
